Replacement for Adrian
The previous thread appears to have disappeared.

I'm watching Villa v Millwall at the moment, and Villa's Jed Steer would suit us down to the ground as Fabianski's deputy. Technically very sound and dependable. He's 26 years old and even better still, he's a FREEBIE at the end of June.

Mr Sullivan, none of the young goalies at West Ham are good enough for the first team, so don't even think about promoting any of them, especially the gangly Bermudan.

Always found the job of a keeper a strange one.
If you are not No1 you basically don't do your job.

Not sure I could do it.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
Sub goalie has to be the best job going imo, everyone always thinks you’re better than you are (remember how many people were calling for adrian to play) and you pick up a nice wedge for doing fuck all.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
I'd find it incredibly frustrating not playing if all I wanted to do was play football...
The money is great but not playing much would be rubbish

Re: Replacement for Adrian
Rob Green still (reportedly) earns £2m pa at Chelsea. To have a bit of a practice 3 hours a day during the week.

Absolute insanity.

(Get him back!)

Re: Replacement for Adrian
It's an insurance policy just in case Fabianski sustains a long term injury.
GREENO was lucky enough to avoid injury but his deputies were generally pretty shit.
JUSSI just about kept Adrian out of the first team until he was forced to apply for his pension.

Nich 4.02

I’d find it a damn sight more frustrating if the money was shit and I was doing a job I hated.

They only play football, joke how the work shy prima donnas are idolised

Re: Replacement for Adrian
Robert Green is 39 and is third keeper at Chelsea which just makes him a training partner.
He hasn’t played a match this season and spent the previous season at Huddersfield where he also didn’t play a match.
Nice work if you can get it.
Understand he was doing an Open University degree a few years ago for life after football & probably to give himself something to do.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
Hard to imagine a gig better than Rob Green's. End your career with a year sat round on your arse all day other than a couple of hours goalkeeping practice.

"That'll be 2 million British Pounds, please. Thank you very much, sir."

JACKPOT.

Nick Pope.

Or just nick THE Pope.

He'd be good in crosses.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
Nathan Trott is the obvious option (England under-20 goalkeeper)

Pope would be my choice but I can think of better positions to spend the reported 10m he will cost us

Re: Replacement for Adrian
The classic case of sub goalie was Stuart Taylor who was from Romford and began his career at Arsenal.

Was at Arsenal, Villa and Man City as a reserve/3rd choice who rarely played. He is 38 years old and has played less than 100 games in his entire career.

Was released by Southampton last summer and hasn't officially retired and hasn't played a first team game since 2015!

Re: Replacement for Adrian
Daniel Bentley has only got a year left on his contract at Brentford, and apparently they want to cash in instead of losing him on a free next year. Definitely good enough as back up, and counts as home grown.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
I know a season ticket holder at Brentford, and he reckons he's been a bit of a liability this season for the first time.

I'd take a punt on him still though. We've been linked to him a couple of times.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
The problem we face is Fabianski, he's far too good.

At 34 he could command the No1 shirt for another 3 years or more. Whoever comes to us will have to enjoy not playing very much.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
I'm hearing that the David Martin deal could be done already.

I'm not sure if he'll be 3rd choice or direct back up, but I'll be quite happy either way. Regardless that everyone will have a meltdown because of his CV (it'll be the same lot who lost their shit when we signed Fabianski, & look how that turned out) he's about the same standard as Adrian, will be on less than half his wages, and is home grown.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
Martin is nowhere near as good as Adrian so I cannot imagine Pellegrini would settle for him as a replacement.

Eerie Descent 11:41 Wed May 29
Re: Replacement for Adrian
Yes he is.

You know nothing you spineless shitbag.

Re: Replacement for Adrian
You break easily.

Martin is not really good enough for Millwall's first team and way below the standard of keeper a EPL side needs.
